BEAM Plus Platinum rating lights Hactl’s path to sustainability

Hong Kong, December 17, 2021 – Hactl has been awarded a Platinum rating, the highest level of the coveted BEAM Plus Interiors Version 1.0, for its recently completed office refurbishment.

The rating – which applies to Hactl’s refurbished offices on 4 / F to 6 / F, East Wing, North Office Block, SuperTerminal 1 – was awarded following a rigorous two-year evaluation. Features that have contributed to Hactl’s success include the use of LED lighting which has reduced lighting energy consumption by over 30 percent; more than 97 percent of workstations are now naturally lit.

In addition, lighting and MVAC (mechanical ventilation and air conditioning) systems have been replaced with high energy efficiency models, while artificial lighting and use of air conditioning have been controlled by occupancy and CO. .2 sensors installed in all offices.

BEAM accreditation for renovation has also been influenced by the inclusion of a number of human-centric features, which create a safe and enjoyable working environment. The ergonomic workstation furniture adheres to best practice in occupational health and safety, while the open spaces are designed to facilitate both relaxed work interactions and leisure breaks for staff – for which a table de billiards and table football are provided.

The adjacent Hactl Sports Center offers a gym, yoga room, table tennis, badminton and squash courts. An infant feeding room and barrier-free toilet contribute to an inclusive and non-discriminatory workplace.

Another aspect of the renovation that has contributed to its BEAM award is its use of recycled waste. Hactl collected wood waste from the local community, as well as discarded wooden pallets and disused furniture from its own terminal operations, and transformed them into new furniture and art installations for the benefit and enjoyment of staff and staff. visitors.

According to Wilson Kwong, Managing Director of Hactl: “Our offices at SuperTerminal 1 have had a difficult life since opening in 1998, so a renovation was definitely needed. But we wanted it to be more than a simple redevelopment: our ambition was to improve the working environment for our team, to present the proud history of Hactl and the Hong Kong air cargo industry to our visitors to the around the world, and to stay true to the sustainability principles of our Green Terminal program.

“The BEAM award proves that we have achieved all of these goals, creating a cultural and aesthetic environment that must be rare or even unique within our industry. It also shows that you don’t need a whole new building to achieve sustainability: anything is possible if you are passionate about protecting the environment.

He concludes: “BEAM accreditation is another important step in our zero carbon journey and inspires us to continue this vitally important mission. “
